Parkinson's Disease Psychological Support
Specialist psychological support for people living with Parkinson's, their families and carers.
About This Service
Dee Daly has over fifteen years' experience supporting individuals and families with complex mental health and emotional needs. Through this work, it became clear that while the physical symptoms of Parkinson's disease — such as tremor, slowness of movement, and rigidity — are widely recognised, the psychological and cognitive impacts are often under-identified and under-treated.
Parkinson's is frequently associated with a range of mental health and neurocognitive symptoms, including anxiety, depression, apathy, psychosis, impulsive and compulsive behaviours, hallucinations, mild cognitive impairment, burnout, and dementia. These symptoms can be profoundly distressing and can significantly affect quality of life for both individuals and their families.
Paradigm Counselling provides specialist psychological support for people living with Parkinson's, their families, and the professionals who support them. We understand the grief, loss of identity, anxiety, and depression that often accompany a Parkinson's diagnosis. Many individuals report that these psychological symptoms are more distressing than the physical aspects of the condition itself.
Research indicates that at any given time, over 40% of people with Parkinson's experience significant symptoms of depression, and more than 30% experience clinically significant anxiety. Addressing these mental health needs — alongside the emotional impact on families and carers — is essential to comprehensive care.
At Paradigm, this is a core area of expertise. With over fifteen years of experience, we offer informed, compassionate, and evidence-based psychological care, ensuring you and your family are supported by clinicians who truly understand the complexities of Parkinson's disease.
